Esashi Southern Hokkaido Area

It is said that a “quick-witted” master Esashi-no-Shigejiro lives in Esashi in the Edo period.
The roadside rest area “Esahi” is located at the Shigejiro Beach standing his bronze statue.
Mystifiing a master of place for herrings and the public, Shigejiro was a local idol with making people laugh.
This rest area is the town’s central place for promoting itself as “laughter” home.
For setting the mood for the atmosphere of place for herrings in the Edo period, it is the facility with gable roof using Japanese cypress locally grown.
